Stop Using Your Straw Only for Warm-Ups
If you’re only using your Singing / Straw for warm-ups and then putting it away… you’re kind of doing your voice a disservice.
It’s a lot like buying a set of resistance bands and only ever using them to stretch.
Sure, they’re great for that… but with a little direction, you can actually use them to build strength in your legs and glutes instead of just warming up.
Most people just don’t know how.
Same goes for the straw.
A lot of people treat it like a warm-up accessory.
They’ll do a few sirens or lip trills, feel like they’ve checked the box, and then move on to their song work without it.
And then they wonder why they’re still hitting the same walls or why progress feels slow.
One of our community members, Lexy, experienced this recently while working on "Much More" from The Fantasticks.
She kept bracing for a big octave jump and would tense up every. single. time.
But once she started using the straw on the actual song, the jump felt surprisingly easy.
She, like most singers, wasn’t expecting it to make THAT much of a difference.
This is usually where many singers short-change themselves: when they stop using the straw the second they start singing “real” music.
The straw can help you work through tension, anticipation, and weak spots while you’re singing the songs you actually want to sing.
Not just before them.
If you want to start using the straw beyond warm-ups, there’s a video inside the app called Working a Song with the Singing / Straw that shows you how.
You’ll find it in the Straw Basics module (which you keep access to even if you cancel your trial).
And if you want to practice with others and get some real-time feedback from the chick who actually you know… created the straw you’re using…
We host monthly livestreams every single month inside our Singing / Straw Studio App Community!
You can jump back into the app & join us for our upcoming LIVE singing sesh now >>>
Oh, and if you haven’t started your free 7-day trial yet, you can do that too 🙂
